Italy was the most important EU- trade partner of Iran, with a trade volume of 2.4 billion Euro, followed by France (2.0 bn Euro) and Germany  (1.6 bn Euro).

At Mid-Year 2017, the European Union (EU28) export of goods to Iran stood at € 4,937 mn, an increase of 39% compared with the first six month in 2016.  According to the latest data by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, 28% of the EU-ex­ports to Iran came from Germany, which delivered goods worth € 1,395 mn, that was 23% more than in the first six month of the year 2016.  Second (17%) was France with exports worth € 850 mn (+28%), followed by Italy (€ 764 mn, +162%).   

January to June 2017 the 28 EU countries imported goods worth  € 5.004 bn (an increase of 227% compared with the first six month of 2016).  With the removal of most of the sanctions at the end of January 2016, Iran again started the export of oil to Europe.  That is the reason for the high growth rates in Iranian exports to some EU countries.  Major Iranian exports to the European Union  go to Italy, which imported goods worth € 1,542 mn from Iran (+684%) and France (€ 1,261 mn, + 441%).  Germany now holds 6th place with imports worth 184 million Euro (+22%).   

Tehran (FT):   According to the latest customs data 23,266 vehicles were imported into the coun­try in the first four months to July, up 55% y/y.  Figures released by Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Adminis­tra­tion (IRICA), during the 4-month period 8,255 more vehicles were imported by land and sea ports up on last year’s 15,011 units, Asre Khodro reported.   The import data adds that 15,774 cars with engines smaller than 2000cc, and 7,792 cars of 2000 to 2,500cc were shipped to Iran during the period.  The total value of imported cars with the engine volume of 1500 to 2000 cc in the four months was over $426 million, and the value of imported cars in the 2000 to 2,500 cc range was $213 million. Imported cars with engines of 1,500 to 2000cc had a 2.6% share of the market while 2000 to 2,500 cc vehicles currently have 1.35% overall.
