EU-Iran Foreign Trade Till May at 8 Billion Euro
Italy was the most important EU- trade partner of Iran, with a trade volume of 1.8 billion Euro, followed by France (1.7 bn Euro) and Germany (1.3 bn Euro).
In the first five month of the year 2017, the European Union (EU28) export of goods to Iran stood at € 4,010 mn, an increase of 41% compared with the first five month in 2016. According to the latest data by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, 28% of the EU-exports to Iran came from Germany, which delivered goods worth € 1.124 mn, that was 26% more than in the first five month of the year 2016. Second (17%) was France with exports worth € 693 mn (+204%), followed by Italy (€ 658 mn, 27%).
January to May 2017 the 28 EU countries imported goods worth € 3.956 bn (an increase of 292% compared with the first five month of 2016). With the removal of most of the sanctions at the end of January 2016, Iran again started the export of oil to Europe. That is the reason for the high growth rates in Iranian exports to some EU countries. Major Iranian exports to the European Union go to Italy, which imported goods worth € 1,158 mn from Iran (+693%), France (€ 1.014 mn, + 552%), Spain (€ 480 mn, +129%), Greece (€ 473 mn, 297%) and the Netherland (€ 367 mn, + 494%),. Germany now holds 6th place with imports worth 145 million Euro (+13%).
