Italy was the most important EU- trade partner of Iran, with a trade volume of 1.5 billion Euro, followed by France (1.4 bn Euro) and Germany  (1.0 bn Euro).

In the first four month of the year 2017, the European Union (EU28) export of goods to Iran stood at € 3,145 mn, an increase of 42% compared with the first four month in 2016.  According to the latest data by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, 28% of the EU-ex­ports to Iran came from Germany, which delivered goods worth € 877 mn, that was 28% more than in the first four month of the year 2016.  Second (17%) was France with exports worth € 528 mn (+196%), followed by Italy (€ 515 mn, + 30%).   

January to April 2017 the 28 EU countries imported goods worth  € 3.414 bn (an increase of 375% compared with the first four month of 2016).  With the removal of most of the sanctions at the end of January 2016, Iran again started the export of oil to Europe.  That is the reason for the high growth rates in Iranian exports to some EU countries.  Major Iranian exports to the European Union go to Italy, which imported goods worth € 1,009 mn from Iran (+730%), France (€ 824 mn, + 858%), Spain (€ 430 mn, +119%), Greece (€ 370 mn, 752%) and the Netherland (€ 365 mn, + 1,756%),.  Germany now holds 6th place with imports worth 121 million Euro (+12%).
